This paper compares the concept of Hatha Yoga according to Patanjali Yoga Sutra and Vasishtha Samhita. The authors conclude by pointing out that the two views of Hatha Yoga are similar but there are key differences. These include whether or not individual limbs of the ashtanga approach are understood as internal or external. For instance, Patanjali considers Pratyahara as external whereas the Vasistha Samitha understands Pratyahara as internal. Also, for Patanjali, there are no specific asanas mentioned but the Vasistha Samitha proposes ten.
